Shot on EPIC DRAGON: X-Men Apocalypse

20th Century Fox released the final trailer for the upcoming superhero blockbuster, X-Men: Apocalypse. Directed by Bryan Singer and shot in 3D on RED EPIC DRAGON by cinematographer, and longtime Singer collaborator, Newman Thomas Sigel. The trailer features new scenes and epic battles, including a comic book inspired duel between Cyclops and Storm, while also teasing us with a glimspe of a very familiar hero:

This time around the X-Men are up against the immortal Apocalypse (played by an unrecognizable Oscar Isaac). Worshiped as a god since the dawn of civilization and awakening after thousands of years, Apocalypse recruits the disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and other mutants to create a new world order. Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence in usual badass mode) leads the team of good-guy mutant warriors to save a captured Professor X and stop their seemingly invincible nemesis from destroying mankind.

Ferrell actually takes not one, but five fields in this docu/mockumentary. His quest is to play ten different baseball positions on ten Major League Baseball teams during five spring training games. The stunt is a nod to Burt “Campy” Campaneris – a legendary player who once played all positions in a single game exactly 50 years ago. Ferrell faces this “challenge” with his trademarked stone-faced dry humor – always playing the clown playing the guy doing the thing.

But in this instance, the very real rock-hard baseballs often whiz by him at an impressive and potentially dangerous clip. The suggestion of possible danger brings some suspense to the show – between musings on the road and dugout temper tantrums.

All proceeds from “Ferrell Takes The Field” will go to Cancer for College, a charity founded by Ferrel’s USC frat bro Craig Pollard, that awards scholarships to cancer survivors. At the time of shooting, the production had already raised a million dollars for the organization. If you’re feeling particularly generous, you can donate directly here, and be entered to win all sorts of Ferrell Takes the Field swag. There’s even an opportunity to win a branded cowbell for the dedicated donor…

Watch “Ferrell Takes the Field” tonight at 7pm on the west coast, 9pm central, and 10pm out east.

For a sneak preview – Watch Ferrell get fitted for a cup!

Shot on EPIC DRAGON: Diary of a Teenage Girl

The celebrated Sundance darling, Diary of a Teenage Girl hits theaters this weekend – directed by Marielle Heller and shot by Brandon Trost on RED EPIC paired with the gorgeous PANAVISION C-SERIES & G-SERIES ANAMORPHICS.

Trost took home the US Drama – Special Jury Award for Cinematography at Sundance this year. Set in 1970’s San Francisco and based on Phoebe Gloeckner‘s graphic novel of the same name, Diary of a Teenage Girl is a change of pace for Trost, who has recently lensed such big-budget comedies as The Interview, Neighbors and This is the End.

Minnie’s narration of her own life – her “all-consuming thoughts about sex and men” is anything but precious, and appropriately swings between heartache and puppy love with plenty of sexual adventures in between. Sara Gunnarsdóttir ‘s animation – in the style of Gloeckner’s original graphic novel – intermittently appears, layered over Trost’s photography. The rough, child-like drawings of her very adult thoughts playfully interact with the original image – a novel and charming presentation of that awkward in-betweenness that is teenagehood.

Diary of a Teenage Girl stars Bel Powley as MinnieAlexander Skarsgaard (who showed up in drag to the premiere), Kristen Wiig & Chris Meloni. It opens this weekend in LA and New York.
